Meet Ivaylo Kovachev – one of REDVERTEX’s most talented and creative CG Artists. Ivaylo has been working in the CG industry for over 10 years. He brought his talent to REDVERTEX six year ago and has since worked on an impressive set of projects. As an Associate CG Artist at the REDVERTEX Studio Ivaylo has worked with companies like Callison RTKL and Broadway Malyan. He is good enough to produce 3D most of the time, but also often graphic design, maintenance of our website and Facebook account, marketing, as well as photo and video shootings.
His professionalism never falter!
Describe yourself in 3 words.
Me, myself & I.
If you had only one word to describe yourself, what would it be?
What is CG Artist?
A modern term for “magician”.
How would you describe this job to a child?
It’s like you are drawing a house with crayons, but instead using a computer.
How did you start working at REDVERTEX?
I was working as a Graphic Designer in Plovdiv. 6 years ago our director Dimitar Rashkov contacted me to come and discuss a move from 2D to 3D. I liked the studio, the idea, the atmosphere, and a week later I started working at REDVERTEX.
What were your first days at the REDVERTEX Studio like?
I was learning new things every day, even though we were 20-30 people at the time, you could acquire information from everyone.
When was the moment you knew that this was the job for you?
I was always interested in digital arts – photography, drawing, graphic design… once I started getting into 3D and showcasing my first renders in some web forums, one guy said “а new 3D collossus is coming”. At this moment I realized I have the potential to make a living out of my hobby. And what better thing than making your hobby a job.
What motivates you? What is your muse?
The idea of life being too short to waste time, have doubts in my decisions or be afraid to follow my heart.
What would your colleagues say about you?
As one of my idols Steve Jobs once said: “Don’t be trapped by dogma – which is living with the results of other people’s thinking. Don’t let the noise of others’ opinions drown out your own inner voice”… So you should ask them about that, as I don’t think about what others would say.
Tell me something other people doesn’t know about you?
I have a bachelor degree in Marketing, which has zero relation to CGI.
What are the three things you can’t live without?
– My girlfriend.
– Digital arts.
What are your hobbies/interests outside work?
My biggest passion since I was a kid is football – both playing and watching. Later I also found my love for extreme sports – rollerblading and snowboarding.
Furthermore I love photography and videography, recently I also got into drone photography which took my possibilities to new heights.
Music is also a big part of my life – I started going to concerts when I was 13 and it’s one of my favorite feelings in the world.
Of course travelling – it lets you recharge, exploring new horizons, new ways of seeing life through different culture.
In the news story of your life, what would the headline say?
“The world is yours”.
Tell me about Dubai Harbour? Is it an interesting project?
It is a very prestigious project for a very popular area of the city- between Palm Jumeirah and Dubai Marina, by the biggest developper in Dubai – Emaar.
The vision and scale for the projects in Dubai is always interesting – they “create” land in the sea when they need to (as in this case) and build on top of it. It’s a different world over there.
What did you enjoy most about the project?
The location of the project, and that is surrounded by water.
What do you want to be when you grow up?
The creative adult is the child who survived, so I hope I don’t grow up.
How many times does it take for you to listen to a song that you love before you actually hate it instead?
It never happened – I still listen to the music I liked in high school. The other way around is probably more possible – start loving a band that didn’t get to me at first.
If you could only choose one song to play every time you walked into a room for the rest of your life, what would it be?
Rage Against the Machine – Guerrilla Radio.
How long does it take you to scroll through Facebook before giving up?
I never give up. 🙂
If I were to ask your current boss to tell me one thing you do that drives him crazy what would he tell me?
Probably not passing enough when we play football together. 🙂
Is there any question I haven’t asked you that I should?
Every person is a galaxy of his own and as space is endless, so are the subjects to talk about with someone.
